Trek #2: A special place in Kakadu National Park

This year ECNT invites you to join us for some bushwalks in beautiful places around the Top End. These experiences are about enjoying yourself, getting to know the landscapes and learning about their natural heritage. We’ll also discuss how we can respond to various threats to animals and plants in these places.

We have three trips in 2021, ranging from the easy and short to the more adventurous and challenging - as suits your ability or inclination. Each trip will be organised and led by Andy Peart, an experienced bushwalking tour guide, accompanied by local ecologist Dave Liddle and other experts where available.

Note that our trips are not tours, but private excursions which you’re welcome to participate. Your financial contribution will be used to help ECNT to continue and improve the work we do. Our Centre receives no funding from government for our work in environmental advocacy across a huge geographical area, so we depend on donations and income from events like these to keep going.

Spaces are limited (8 participants for the Litchfield and Kakadu trips) so if you’re keen, express your interest ASAP and someone will phone you back. We hope you can join us!

In the southern area of Australia’s largest national park - Kakadu -  is the valley of the Upper South Alligator River and its tributaries draining from the Arnhemland and Marrawal Plateaus. It’s a valley of great natural heritage and is culturally sacred to Indigenous people of Jawoyn language heritage, who own the land both traditionally and in Australian law. It was also the site of a passionate environmental and cultural stand-off – one of the biggest in Australia’s history – which lead to the toppling of a prime-minister back in the 1980s.

If you have some experience with overnight bushwalking, have good fitness and a desire to experience and learn about this area,  join us on this trip along one of the wild and beautiful tributaries of this valley.

Transport provided from Darwin or use your own four-wheel-drive vehicle if preferred. Evening meals provided (each participant carries a share of the ingredients).

Four days (Friday-Monday), medium-difficult grade (off-track walking through rough, remote woodland and along rocky creeks with an overnight pack).

Trip cost: $650 (Territory Guardians / members: $600). There are 8 spots available.

This event is now fully booked.

To add your name to the waitlist in case of cancellations, email Andy Peart on [email protected] who is leading the walk. Please include your phone number.
