No Beetaloo fracking export pipeline

No fracking project in the NT has ever been assessed under Federal Environment laws - and that must change.

The APA Group has referred its monster 1561km North to East Australia Pipeline (NEAP) for approval under NT and Queensland laws.

While it’s being split in two for assessment at a State and Territory level, the truth is that this is a single, unprecedented, fracked gas export pipeline that could deliver the gas industry what it needs to roll out thousands of fracking wells across the NT.

Enough is enough. The Federal Government can no longer sit on the sidelines as the gas industry tries to frack the Territory for gas company's export profits. This fracking export pipeline must be assessed at the highest level under the Federal laws that are meant to protect the nature we love.

But these threats are only part of the story.

If the gas industry gets its way, we could see up to 6000 fracking wells drilled through our underground reservoirs, which supply 90% of the Territory’s water needs. Just one fracking accident could poison our water forever.

Beetaloo fracking would set off a giant climate bomb that we simply can't afford and will harm all Australians and have global impacts.

Dear Minister Watt 
For too long, Beetaloo frackers have avoided scrutiny under our Federal nature laws, and that must change.  
I am writing to ask you to ensure that APA Group’s proposed fracked gas export pipeline and the fracking it enables is subject to proper scrutiny under the EPBC Act. 
At over 1561km, the fracking export pipeline will excavate and trench through some of Northern Australia's most important ecosystems.
This includes important and intact habitat for threatened species like the critically endangered Night parrot and endangered Kowari. 
Once the pipeline crosses into Queensland, it poses a threat to the waterways, floodplains, springs and wetlands of Channel Country - threatening to disrupt the flows that sustain incredible biodiversity and some of the last remaining free-flowing desert river systems in the world
But these threats are only part of the story, and the fracking export pipeline must be assessed together with the massive escalation in fracking that it will enable and the giant climate bomb it will unleash. 
Please stand with us for the Territory's nature and ensure proper assessment of the total risks of fracking and export pipelines are scrutinised.
