Inpex wants to build the world’s biggest marine dumping ground for climate emissions off the coast of the NT, and we can’t let it happen.
Carbon dumping projects around the world have failed to live up to the fossil fuel industry’s hype – even when these projects successfully capture carbon emissions, it’s only a fraction of the companies’ total impact on our climate.
Inpex’s Bonaparte carbon dumping project has been referred under federal environment laws, and it’s time for the Prime Minister and the Environment Minister Murray Watt to draw a line in the sand – don’t sacrifice the NT for gas industry greenwashing.
We already know that Inpex can’t be trusted with toxic emissions– now they plan to build an unprecedented, high-risk carbon emissions hub on our doorstep, importing carbon waste and injecting it under the seabed in the Bonapart Gulf 250km west of Darwin.
It’s a recipe for disaster, and it’s NT communities, nature and taxpayers that will pay the price.
The Bonaparte carbon dumping project would:
- Greenwash more gas expansion, putting our climate at risk;
- Endanger the unique marine habitats of the Bonaparte Gulf through drilling, potential leaks, and long-term seismic blasting.
- Turn Darwin Harbour into a carbon emissions transport import hub, putting local ecosystems and the community at risk of deadly carbon dioxide leaks.
Will you send a letter to Prime Minister Albanese and Environment Minister Murray Watt urging them to stop gas polluters dumping on the NT?
