Over the last few years, you’ve stood up like never before for what we all love and cherish. Extraordinary campaigns to protect the places we love, led by the people of the Northern Territory, have inspired and gripped people from around Australia and the globe. From the thousands fighting to save Lee Point, to Tiwi opposition to Santos’ toxic Barossa project, to the decade-long fight to stop fracking in the Beetaloo Basin, to the growing force opposing the toxic planned Middle Arm gas and petrochemical hub, we are together building a powerful movement to protect the Territory’s nature and climate that is impossible to ignore.
Unfortunately, strong commitments on climate, nature and integrity are missing in action from the major parties – and a complicit media – in the pre-election frenzy. It’s full steam ahead for destructive industries like fracking, offshore gas and cotton, and very few are asking the hard questions. With just under two weeks left until election day, we think it’s well past time to put the issues that Territorians care deeply about back on the agenda.
We’ve surveyed Labor, the CLP, the Greens and Independents on their policy commitments to protect the Territory’s nature and water, take strong climate action, invest in clean energy, and improve the integrity of our political system. You can read our scorecard questions here. We’ll be releasing the results of our election scorecard later today.
But right now, we urgently need you to send a message to all parties that we expect them to commit to strong action on climate, nature and integrity. We need them to hear loud and clear how important these issues are to the people of the Northern Territory. Please sign this petition calling for strong action, and your demands will be sent direct to the inboxes of the Territory Labor Party, the Country Liberal Party and the Greens.
It’s crucial that these issues are front and centre right up to polling day on 24 August 2024.
Thank you for taking action, as always, for the Territory’s nature, climate and future.
