We’re already being taken for a ride by the gas industry - we shouldn't foot the bill for fracking.

The Albanese Government is considering taxpayer-funded handouts to support fracking the NT, while Australians can’t even get a fair share of the return on their gas.

We can’t let this happen.

As bombs rain down in the Middle East, gas companies stand to make billions in wartime profits while we foot the bill at the bowser. But these companies have still been asking for taxpayer handouts for almost 1600km of fracking pipelines - and the Albanese Government is signalling they’re willing to pay up.

Let’s be clear. It will be fracked here, and sold overseas, while we foot the bill.

Sign the petition to call on the Albanese Government to say no to subsidies for fracking and send a message that Territorians don’t want more government handouts to an industry already refusing to pay its fair share.

Dear Prime Minister Albanese,

We’re already being taken for a ride by the gas industry - don’t make Australians foot the bill for fracking.

Minister Madeleine King just suggested that her Government is considering supporting subsidies for fracking pipelines in the NT. This is at odds with Labor’s recent commitments to oppose public subsidies for fracking in the NT and out of touch with huge numbers of Territorians who don’t want to see the NT get fracked, much less pay for it.                                
 
Fracking subsidies aren’t the answer.

Fracking the NT will do nothing to solve east coast gas supply problems, but it will leave Territorians with a massive bill and a potential disaster for our water and climate.

While we pay the costs, its gas companies that are set to profit; the CEO of gas pipeline giant APA has made it clear, stating that “There’s no question that Beetaloo is principally going to be an LNG export play”.

I urge you to rule out subsidies for fracking in the NT - including pipelines.
