Voluntary Board Member

We are looking for passionate, committed people to join our Board and help shape the future of environmental action in the Territory.

At our upcoming Annual General Meeting on Thursday 27 November 2025, six positions on the Environment Centre NT Board will be open for election.

Five positions are available for two-year terms, while one position is available as a casual vacancy for one year.

We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, young leaders, people from remote and regional communities, and those with governance experience to apply.

We are particularly looking for:

1) Accounting and Finance Experience:

  • You’ll be the steady hand on budgets, risk and resources
  • CA/CPA (or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Not For Profit/charity experience 
  • Oversee budgets, cashflow, audit and risk
  • Chair or support the Finance and Audit Committee Advise on grants, fundraising, and sustainable revenue models
  • Translate numbers into clear, strategic decisions for the Board.

2) First Nations Leadership:

  • You’ll centre Country, culture and community in everything we do
  • Strong connections with First Nations communities across the NT
  • Champion cultural safety, self-determination and partnership frameworks
  • Advise on land/water stewardship and climate justice
  • Guide engagement
  • Co-design and governance practices across programs.

All Board members – What You'll Do - High-Level

  • All Board members are required to help set our strategy and steward our mission
  • Approving the annual plan and KPIs Ensure good governance & compliance
  • Uhold values and integrity Oversee finances and risk
  • Monitor performance and sustainability
  • Support fundraising
  • Partnerships and stakeholder engagement
  • Champion First Nations partnerships and evidence-based advocacy
  • Prepare for and attend Board meetings
  • Join at least one committee
  • Act as an ECNT ambassador.

Time commitment:

Regular monthly Board meetings plus committee work and occasional events.

Term:

As per the ECNT constitution – two-year terms (plus a one-year casual vacancy is also available).

Location:

Northern Territory wide. Online participation and hybrid participation welcome.
