Leaving a gift in your will (or a bequest) is a meaningful and positive way to provide ongoing support for protecting the environment of the Northern Territory.
Protecting the environment is an intergenerational responsibility. The actions we take today will impact on the future we will leave our children and grandchildren. It is important that we speak up for nature and that we support the organisations that work to ensure a clean (safe), healthy future for everyone.
A gift in your Will, no matter the amount, can make a real difference to the health of the Northern Territory.
Why leave it to the Environment Centre NT (ECNT)?
Since 1983 the Environment Centre NT (ECNT) has been standing up for our water, land and communities.
ECNT is lobbying for a strong Climate Policy for the Territory, including a net zero emissions target by 2050 and a ban on fracking. Our vision is for a sustainable future for the Territory built on clean, low risk renewable technology.
ECNT advocates for protection of the unique landscapes and biodiversity of the Northern Territory. This includes through strong environmental legislation, including stronger laws for land clearing and mining rehabilitation.
ECNT works closely with local community groups Climate Action Darwin, Frackfree NT, No New Gas coalition and COOLmob. We are helping to foster sustainable communities by supporting and empowering the community members to take action.
Writing your will
Your will can reflect what is important to you. Naturally you'll want to look after your loved ones first, however discuss your will with your family to ensure they understand that you also support a clean healthy environment and that charitable giving is part of your wishes.
It is important to review your will regularly to make sure it is still valid so that your wishes can be fulfilled. If you have already written your will, it can be reviewed and rewritten to include your charitable gift to the Environment Centre NT (ECNT). SUGGESTED WORDING FOR YOUR WILL
Our suggested wording for a will is:
· “I give the rest and residue… OR
· “I give [insert description of specific gift]… OR
· “I give [insert percentage] %…
…of my estate free from all debts (secured and unsecured) and all duties and taxes (whether federal or state) payable in respect of my estate to the (“Environment Centre NT”) for its general purposes, and I declare that the receipt of an authorised officer of the said Environment Centre NT shall be a full and sufficient discharge of this bequest.”

Gifts in Memory
A gift in memory is a wonderful way to honour a loved one and their connection to our living environment.
If you have lost someone close to you, you may wish to commemorate their life and pay tribute to their values and wishes for a better world. A gift in memory will help ECNT to continue their work to create a clean and safe Northern Territory for now and for future generations.
In honour of the person you are remembering, we will include their name in a dedicated section of our annual report.
To give a gift to the Environment Centre NT in memory of someone special, please contact us at [email protected]. Please let us know if you would like us to send a card to the next of kin to advise them of your gift.
